CareNow® Urgent Care Offers School and Sports Physicals with Injury Prevention Guidance
EL PASO, Texas — For a limited time, CareNow® Urgent Care clinics—affiliated with Las Palmas Del Sol Healthcare—are offering school and sports physicals for children grades K-12 at a discounted rate of $35 each. Discounted physicals are available now through August 31 at all seven clinic locations in the El Paso area.
Sports physicals are often required for student athletes, as well as marching band and color guard members, so it’s important to check school guidelines for pre-participation requirements prior to training camps and summer practices.
Zachary Cerini, M.D., market medical director at CareNow® Urgent Care, encourages parents to prioritize their children's health and safety by scheduling a pre-season sports physical. “Pre-participation physicals can identify any potential health concerns that could affect your child's ability to participate safely in athletic activities,” Dr. Cerini said.
All students under age 18 who receive a sports physical from CareNow® must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
Additionally, students should bring:
- All necessary forms to the appointment
- Any medications the student takes regularly
- Glasses or contacts (if worn)
The most common injuries in youth sports are sprains, strains, bruises, growth plate injuries, repetition motion injuries and heat-related illness.
In addition to getting a physical, doctors recommend the following in order to prevent injuries:
- Maintain a healthy diet
- Exercise regularly
- Stay hydrated
- Don’t encourage “playing through the pain”
