Del Sol Medical Center names new chief nursing officer
El Paso, TX - Del Sol Medical Center has named John Duran as its new chief nursing officer. Duran has played an integral role at Las Palmas Del Sol Healthcare for more than a decade, most recently serving as assistant chief nursing officer at Del Sol Medical Center for the past six years. Duran assumed his new role on May 1.
“John has a proven track record of improving patient experience, nursing engagement and quality outcomes at our hospital,” Art Garza, chief executive officer of Del Sol Medical Center, said. “He has a thorough understanding of our hospital operations and is well-respected by the nursing team, making him the perfect candidate to assume the role of chief nursing officer. Under his leadership, I am confident our dedicated nurses will continue to provide the highest-quality care to our patients.”
As assistant chief nursing officer, Duran directly supervised emergency services, women's services, critical care services and rehabilitation services, which resulted in improvements in patient experience and quality outcomes. He also helped to lead the nursing team in the aftermath of the Walmart shooting on Aug. 3, 2019. Duran began his career as the director of telemetry at Del Sol Medical Center, where he oversaw day-to-day patient care, management operations and budget development.
“As a native El Pasoan, I could not be more thrilled to have the opportunity to lead and continue working alongside our talented team at Del Sol Medical Center,” Duran said. “This hospital has played an integral role in my professional career, and I look forward to continuing to collaborate with our nurses, staff and physicians to care for the El Paso community for many years to come.”
Duran earned a master's degree in nursing systems management from Texas Tech University, as well as a bachelor's degree in nursing from The University of Texas at El Paso. He is a member of the Texas Organization for Nursing Leadership.
