EL PASO, Texas — Del Sol Medical Center recently received accreditation for its laboratory in the respiratory care department from the Accreditation Committee of the College of American Pathologists (CAP). The CAP accreditation process is designed to ensure the highest standard of care for all laboratory patients and is a re-accreditation for Del Sol Medical Center.

“The respiratory care department at Del Sol Medical Center is proud to once again receive accreditation from the College of American Pathologists for our laboratory services,” Mariano Allen, M.D., and the medical director of the Blood Gas Laboratory at Del Sol Medical Center, said. “This CAP reaccreditation highlights the high level of care we provide for patients receiving these services at our hospital and affirms our efforts to meet the standards of national programs such as the CAP.”

The U.S. federal government recognizes the CAP Laboratory Accreditation Program as being equal to, or more stringent than, the government’s own inspection program.

The laboratory at Del Sol Medical Center earned the reaccreditation based on results from an onsite inspection as part of the CAP’s Accreditation Programs. CAP evaluates laboratories’ records and quality controls of procedure, staff qualifications, equipment, facilities, the safety program and record, and overall management.

Del Sol Medical Center’s respiratory care laboratory is one of more than 7,000 CAP-accredited facilities worldwide.
