Las Palmas Medical Center Broadcasts Robotic Hysterectomy for Global Conference
Las Palmas Medical Center recently broadcast a live hysterectomy using the da Vinci Xi Surgical System to the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists’ (AAGL) Global Hysterectomy Summit. Richard Farnam, M.D., an OB-GYN specializing in urogynecology, performed the hysterectomy alongside a team of nurses and surgical staff.
The San Diego conference, which included a comprehensive program on surgical routes to hysterectomy, featured two live surgeries—one in El Paso and one in Los Angeles, Calif. These surgeries were broadcast to approximately 125 physician attendees and available to 7,500 online participants.
The three-day summit provided attendees with a comprehensive overview of all currently available minimally invasive routes of hysterectomy for benign and malignant conditions. The summit emphasized advanced techniques and principles presented by world-class faculty through real-time demonstrations using cadavers, as well as televised cases using live patients, applicable to all facets of gynecologic surgery regardless of sub-specialization.
Las Palmas Medical Center also became the first in El Paso, and one of the first in the nation, to acquire Trumpf Medical’s advanced operating table, the TruSystem® 7000dV. Dr. Farnam performed El Paso’s first sacrocolpopexy (prolapse repair) using this technology on April 11, 2016.
Integrated Table Motion technology seamlessly combines the da Vinci Xi Surgical System and the TruSystem 7000dV, which allows surgeons the ability to make a comprehensive range of table adjustments easily and efficiently during a surgical procedure. This computer-assisted connection allows the patient and the bed to move in perfect unison with the surgeon’s direction during complex cases without interruptions.
To date, Las Palmas Del Sol Healthcare hospitals have performed more da Vinci robotic procedures, over a broad range of specialties, than any other hospital system in El Paso.
The El Paso Times and El Paso Inc. recently shared news about the telesurgery.
