Nurses Hold Our Community’s Trust

By Don Karl and Jacob Cintron

Time and time again, one profession has topped the list of Gallup’s annual poll of most trusted professions—nursing. For 15 of the last 16 years since nursing’s inclusion, Americans say they trust nurses more than any other professional.

Each year, in May, the nation recognizes the invaluable work of nurses who contribute to the betterment of healthcare in the United States. This celebration coincides with the birthday of Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing.

As part of the Florence Nightingale Pledge, nurses make a commitment to maintain and elevate the standard of the nursing profession, to loyally aid physicians in their work, and to be devoted to the welfare of those committed to their care. Las Palmas Del Sol Healthcare commends all nurses who embody this pledge. They play an essential role in improving patient outcomes, increasing access to care, coordinating care and reducing healthcare costs.

In honor of this year’s National Nurses Week, Las Palmas Del Sol Healthcare recognizes the nurses who are advocating, leading and caring for our community. We extend our sincere appreciation to all nurses for their ongoing dedication, commitment and tireless efforts to the profession and patients and encourage you to do the same.

Don Karl is chief executive officer of Las Palmas Medical Center, and Jacob Cintron is chief executive officer of Del Sol Medical Center. Las Palmas Del Sol Healthcare employs more than 1,100 nurses in El Paso.
