Trauma Patient Reunites with Rescue Team

A former trauma patient reunited with the first responders who saved his life at Del Sol Medical Center last month.

A 31-year-old El Paso resident sustained traumatic injuries from a motorcycle accident in July. While the man’s helmet prevented a brain injury, the accident caused broken bones, a punctured lung and internal bleeding. First responders from the El Paso Fire Department arrived at the scene and performed life-saving measures—including a right chest wall needle decompression, which allowed him to breathe—before transporting him to Del Sol Medical Center’s Level II Trauma Center.

After a 12-day hospitalization, the patient was discharged to Del Sol Medical Center’s In-Patient Rehabilitation Center to continue his recovery. His rehabilitation was successful, and he has made a full recovery.

When the patient reunited with his rescue team, Del Sol Medical Center presented Paulino Simental and Donald Quinn from the El Paso Fire Department—the two first responders who saved his life—with a letter of commendation and certificate of appreciation for their heroic efforts.
