Emergency care
Emergency care is the treatment of unexpected, severe medical injuries or infections. It is typically delivered in an emergency room or an ambulance. Our emergency medicine physicians stabilize your condition as quickly as possible to prepare you for the next step of care or discharge.
Our emergency care services
In addition to our hospital-based emergency rooms, our freestanding emergency care centers provide care for all types of acute injuries, illnesses, and accidents in a smaller, more specialized environment. FSERs are an extension of our primary hospital campuses so patients can be transferred to Del Sol Medical Center or Las Palmas Medical Center if inpatient care is needed.
What's the difference between a freestanding ER and a hospital ER?
At Las Palmas Del Sol Healthcare, both our hospital-based emergency rooms and freestanding emergency care centers are open 24/7 and provide treatment for serious illnesses and injuries.
Our freestanding emergency care centers are fully equipped emergency rooms in convenient neighborhood locations, making it easier to get emergency care close to home. They are an extension of our hospital campuses, so if you need to be admitted for additional care, we can transfer you to Del Sol Medical Center or Las Palmas Medical Center.
No matter which ER you choose, you will be cared for by experienced doctors, nurses and emergency care teams focused on providing fast, compassionate treatment when you need it most. Whether you visit a hospital ER or a freestanding ER, you can count on fast, compassionate emergency care close to home.

ER vs urgent care
When you need medical attention quickly, knowing where to go can save time and help you get the appropriate care. Emergency rooms are best equipped to treat serious illnesses and injuries, such as:
- Broken bones and injuries
- Difficulty breathing
- Head injuries
- Heart attacks and chest pain
- Prolonged, high fevers
- Seizures
- Serious burns and cuts
- Signs of a stroke or heart attack
Urgent care clinics are a good option for non-life-threatening conditions that still need timely treatment, such as:
- Burns
- Cold or flu
- Flu shots and immunizations
- Infections
- Lacerations
- Rashes
- Routine testing and screening
- Sprains and strains
We have seven CareNow® Urgent Care clinics throughout the El Paso region for less serious illnesses and injuries. Our experienced healthcare providers treat a wide range of conditions, including cold and flu symptoms, ear infections, minor cuts and bruises, sprains and strains and urinary tract infections (UTIs). We also offer on-site X-rays, lab testing and vaccinations, making it easy to get the care you need in one visit.
