The Las Palmas Del Sol Healthcare network and Las Palmas Medical Center offer leading-edge treatment options for patients with advanced aortic conditions. One of these procedures is transcatheter aortic valve replacement, or TAVR. This minimally invasive procedure allows doctors to treat patients that may not have been eligible for traditional open-heart surgery.

What is TAVR?
TAVR is a minimally invasive procedure that is used to replace an aortic valve that is failing and no longer opens properly, known as aortic valve stenosis. The minimally invasive procedure allows doctors to enter through a blood vessel or small incision in the chest.
During the procedure, a catheter is inserted through the access point. Your surgeon will use imaging technology to guide the catheter through your blood vessel and into the aortic valve. The new valve is then inserted through the catheter and secured into place. The catheter is then removed.
TAVR may be an option for people who are at intermediate or high risk of complications from surgical aortic valve replacement (open heart surgery).
Postoperative Care
Our specialists are dedicated to comprehensive patient care, including educating both patients and referring physicians about lifelong management of thoracic aortic diseases and life after TAVR. We provide continued support to help patients heal and manage their condition.
Conditions Treated with TAVR
The minimally invasive TAVR procedure allows specialists to optimally manage conditions such as:
- Acute and chronic aortic conditions
- Aortitis
- Coarctation of the aorta
- Intramural hematoma of the aorta
- Marfan syndrome
- Penetrating atherosclerotic ulcers of the aorta
- Thoracic aortic aneurysms
- Thoracoabdominal aortic aneurysms
