EL PASO, Texas—Del Sol Medical Center has named Gary Purushotham as its new chief operating officer. In this role, Purushotham will oversee daily operations and be responsible for ensuring that the activities and results at Del Sol Medical Center are aligned with hospital objectives. Purushotham will assume his new role at Del Sol Medical Center, a part of HCA’s (Hospital Corporation of America) Central and West Texas Division, on Feb. 3.

“Gary’s impressive leadership skills and experience working for various healthcare systems make him an ideal fit for this position,” Jacob Cintron, chief executive officer of Del Sol Medical Center, said. “We know that he will have a positive influence on the operations at Del Sol Medical Center, helping us deliver quality care to our patients.”

Purushotham joined the Methodist Healthcare System, also a part of HCA, in 2007 as director of management engineering. In 2012, he was accepted into HCA’s Executive Accelerated Market Program (AMP), a selective program that prepares employees for senior leadership roles. While participating in the program, Purushotham worked as an associate chief operating officer at Methodist Texsan Hospital in San Antonio. In this role, Purushotham was responsible for overseeing laboratory, plant, security, and food/nutrition and environmental services operations. He also spearheaded several projects, including the construction and opening of the acute rehabilitation unit and the cardiac imaging center.

Purushotham earned a master’s degree in industrial engineering from The University of Texas at El Paso and a master’s degree in healthcare administration from Trinity University in San Antonio.
