Del Sol/UTEP Sim Lab Grand Opening. L to R: Cindy Stout, CNO, Del Sol Medical Center; Dr. Robert L. Anders, Dean, UTEP School of Nursing; Jacon Cintron, CEO, Del Sol Medical Center; and Dr. Kathleen Davis, Dean, UTEP College of Health Sciences.
Del Sol Medical Center in conjunction with The University of Texas at El Paso School of Nursing recently held the grand opening of the new nurse simulation lab at Del Sol.
Del Sol is providing UTEP with space and equipment for a new nurse simulation lab to benefit the university’s nursing students. “The sim lab is critical for nurses who are being trained to care for humans, it provides the students with reality based scenarios so they can practice before they take care of real patients,” said Cindy Stout, Chief Nursing Officer.
Del Sol has provided UTEP with a $100,000 grant from the St. David’s HealthCare of Austin, a division of the Hospital Corporation of America (HCA) Inc. The grant was established to provide funds for 25 practicing nurses from Mexico to prepare for the Texas NCLEX Exam, the state’s nursing board licensure.
Del Sol has also funded two full-time nursing instructors for UTEP, allowing the university to enroll more students into the nursing programs. This in turn addresses on-going nursing shortages in the El Paso community. Additionally, Del Sol has provided $35,000 to UTEP for its instructors who are currently enrolled in the university’s doctoral program to assist them as they pursue their Ph.D. degree. This funding will increase to $40,000 in 2009.
“We are delighted to have the opportunity to work with Del Sol as we prepare the nurses of tomorrow,” said Robert L. Anders, Dr.PH, UTEP School of Nursing dean.
