Del Sol Medical Center is pleased to announce David Shimp as its new chief executive officer (CEO). Shimp began his new role on February 14, 2017.
Before coming to El Paso, Shimp served as the chief operating officer of St. David’s Medical Center—a complex hospital facility that is part of St. David’s HealthCare in Austin—for the past four years. During his tenure at St. David’s Medical Center, Shimp led numerous strategic, clinical and operational initiatives, including more than $100 million in capital projects that contributed to the hospital’s overall growth. His operational talents helped position St. David’s Medical Center as a national leader in quality care and service.
Prior to joining St. David’s HealthCare, Shimp served in a variety of leadership roles, including chief operating officer at OU Medical Center—a three-hospital healthcare system associated with the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine in Oklahoma City.
Shimp has a master’s degree in health administration from Virginia Commonwealth University and a bachelor’s degree in leadership studies from the University of Richmond, both in Richmond, Va.
