EL PASO, TEXAS— Las Palmas Medical Center has announced a new hospital-based community partnership with La Fe WIC, La Fe’s women, infant and children program that offers fundamental nutritional and breastfeeding education to El Paso County’s women and families in need.
“As the only hospital in the Texas Breastfeeding Learning Collaborative in El Paso, we’re focused on providing support and promoting breastfeeding for our new mothers, which is strengthened by this new partnership with La Fe WIC,” Don Karl, chief executive officer at Las Palmas Medical Center, said.
This partnership will help improve maternal self-confidence and provide mothers of newborns with the necessary tools and skills to successfully breastfeed. Through this partnership, La Fe WIC peer counselors will work with mothers post-delivery in the inpatient setting and will provide one-on-one instruction of breastfeeding techniques including cues, position and latch. Counselors will also be available for lactation support, as well as recommending tips on maternal child nutrition.
For more information on this partnership, call (915) 534-7979, or visit the La Fe WIC website.
