Las Palmas Del Sol Healthcare Hospitals Earn National Distinction for Excellence in Patient Safety by Hospital Safety Score SM

EL PASO, Texas — Las Palmas Medical Center and Del Sol Medical Center were recently honored with an “A” Hospital Safety ScoreSM, which rates how well hospitals protect patients from errors, injuries and infections. The Hospital Safety Score is compiled under the guidance of the nation’s leading experts on patient safety and is administered by The Leapfrog Group, an independent industry watchdog.

Scores of “A,” “B,” “C,” “D” or “F” were assigned to U.S. hospitals based on preventable medical errors, injuries, accidents and infections. The scores are designed to give the public information to protect themselves and their families. More than 2,500 U.S. general hospitals were assigned scores in spring 2015.

“The doctors, nurses and staff members at Del Sol Medical Center make safety a priority every day,” Jacob Cintron, chief executive officer of Del Sol Medical Center, said. “We commend our caregivers for the exceptional care they provide, and are proud to be part of a group of hospitals nationwide that are raising the standards of healthcare.”

Developed under the guidance of Leapfrog’s Blue Ribbon Expert Panel, the Hospital Safety Score uses 28 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to produce a single score representing a hospital’s overall capacity to keep patients safe from preventable harm. The Hospital Safety Score is fully transparent, with a full analysis of the data and methodology used in determining grades available online.

“Our hospital staff constantly work to create an environment that is safe from infections, injuries and errors,” Don Karl, chief operating officer and interim chief executive officer of Las Palmas Medical Center, said. “We thank The Leapfrog Group for recognizing these efforts.”

For the first time, the Hospital Safety Score website offers an enhanced feature, allowing users to view a hospital’s current score alongside its previous scores over the past three years, so that consumers can evaluate whether the hospital has maintained consistently strong performance or shown a pattern of improvement. To see how Del Sol Medical Center and Las Palmas Medical Center scores compare nationally and locally, visit the Hospital Safety Score website at hospitalsafetyscore.org.
