Las Palmas Del Sol Healthcare, which includes Las Palmas Medical Center and Del Sol Medical Center, recently announced graduates from its nurse residency program, a graduate program that provides education and hands-on training. Las Palmas Medical Center honored 11 graduates from the program’s first cohort in February, and Del Sol Medical Center honored 33 graduates from its first and second cohort in late March.

“We are thrilled to be part of this graduate program that further educates nurses and helps prepare them to provide a high level of care to El Pasoans,” Lucy Koneri, director of education for Las Palmas Medical Center, said.

The nurse residency program, which is in partnership with The University of Texas at El Paso, Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center Gayle Greve Hunt School of Nursing and New Mexico State University, offers an innovative one-year nursing residency program with curriculum tailored specifically to the needs and culture of the El Paso community. Las Palmas Del Sol Healthcare’s nurse residency program is the only graduate nursing program of its kind in El Paso.

“To provide this level of training for nurses by collaborating with these groups is a great value to area residents,” Sherry Quintanilla, director of training and development for Del Sol Medical Center, said. “We look forward to the positive impact these nurses will have on patient care in the future.”
